We’re Developing a New Delay Analysis Course…And We Would Like Your Help
Many of you have expressed interest in a delay analysis course and we’re aware that, with little on offer in the market at the moment, there is a real need for quality training courses on this topic.
So, Claims Class is creating a course to address this need. We are starting with a 1 or 2-day course that covers the principles, aimed at those who require an understanding of the complicated subject of delay analysis.
We understand that those with programming expertise will need to know the principles to be able to correctly apply their skills in line with good practice, but we also recognise that non-programmers also need to have knowledge of this subject, in order to be able to manage the tasks required to bring about successful extension of time claims.
The emphasis of this course will very much be on principles and good practice rather than the technicalities of performing delay analyses with programming software (that’s for another course!).
Based on the above, we believe that the course would appeal to:
- Project Managers
- Commercial Managers
- Contract Managers and Administrators
- Project Controllers
- Planners and Programmers
- Quantity Surveyors
- Claims managers or consultants
With that in mind, and if you fall into any of the professional positions listed above, we would really appreciate your opinion on what the course should cover. If you would like to help shape the content for this course, please add your comment below.

Hi,
I think if its a comprehensive course over a time span of 1-2 weeks, it should ideally cover the following:
1) Analysis of the contract and key points to ponder upon before formulation of a delay analysis.
2) Understanding,implementation and significance of each delay technique, in depth analysis with cases studies as the current market is throwing around various definitions of these techniques.
3) Narrative formulation, key points to highlight and keep in my mind during delay analysis.
4) Concurrency and ways to properly identify it.
Hi Anas,
Many thanks for your feedback and comments.
Kind regards
Tarryn
Hi Nina,
I am really happy to see this subject. I would like to add my comments/recommendations with the hope to contribute;
I believe there are plenty of courses which covers the principals of Delay Analysis. However since every project is unique and almost every delay analysis is case specific which requires a broad understanding in decision making and assumptions. I believe there is a lack of comprehensive course which would highlight the main problems during execution of a delay analysis. I understand that Consultant companies doesn’t want to share this much info in courses as it’s kind of their “secret sauce”. I would definitely send people working under me to a course covering below issues;
– How to judge the quality of the Approved Programme and what should be the approach to making logic changes on the Analysis Baseline Programme?
– What happens if the Baseline Programme is still not approved on the date of deciding to submit a claim. There might be several rounds of comments by the reviewing party and some of them might be reasonable some of them might not. What is the criteria to deal with this situation?
– Many times, we face with situations where an approved baseline programme exists however for the ares affected by the delay events are not detailed adequately in the programme. For instance, there might be a single bar activity for the facade works however, there might be different delay events impacting different elevations.. What should be the strategy on this situation?
I have answers to these kind of questions with experience. However i think the industry needs a course which covers these kind of alive examples and real problems that are being faced; a course which explains the approach of the parties, arbitrators, expert witnesses and courts to these kind of issues as they are usually not covered under the Contract.
Thanks already for you respond.
Best Regards,
